The 100 Hours of Astronomy represents a great opportunity for AWB’s Affiliate network to lead the way in the world’s greatest public outreach event. And it won’t just be separate star parties. New media technologies will allow everyone to experience the event in distant places, with interaction making it one big event. A 24-hour global star party, originally planned as an AWB activity, will now be part of the 100 Hours of Astronomy, not only bringing astronomy to the public but connecting AWB Affiliates and others.

·Astronomers at professional research observatories around the world took viewers inside their telescope domes and control rooms during a live 24-hour webcast on 3 April.
· Selected science centres participated in a live webcast featuring discussions on current topics in astronomy on 2 April. Live observations were made by visitors to these science centres using telescopes operated remotely over the Internet. Science centres worldwide featured enhanced outreach programmes, many with the participation of amateur astronomy groups holding public observing sessions.
·During the entire 100 Hours of Astronomy (from 2-5 April), several observatories around the world gave free access to their telescopes.

Miss Florance
I look in google and I remumire all this:

100 Hours of Astronomy, 2-5 April brought over 100 countries together in a planet-wide celebration of astronomy.  The world visited 80 professional observatories around the world during a 24-hour live online tour, and more than a million people had their first close-up views of the Moon, Saturn, the Sun and other objects of interest through telescopes.  A Cornerstone Project of the International Year of Astronomy brought the Universe to all the world's citizens to discover for themselves.

The last of NASA's three High Energy Astronomy Observatories, HEAO 3 was launched 20 September 1979 on an Atlas-Centaur launch vehicle, into a nearly circular, 43.6 degree inclination low-Earth orbit with an initial perigee of 486.4 km. The normal operating mode was a continuous celestial scan, spinning approximately once every 20 min about the spacecraft z-axis, which was nominally pointed at the Sun. Total mass of the observatory at launch was 2,660.0 kilograms (5,864 lb)[1].
HEAO 3 included three scientific instruments: the first a cryogenic high-resolution germanium gamma-ray spectrometer, and two devoted to cosmic-ray observations. The scientific objectives of the mission's three experiments were:
(1) to study intensity, spectrum, and time behavior of X-ray and gamma-ray sources between 0.06 and 10 MeV; measure isotropy of the diffuse X-ray and gamma-ray background; and perform an exploratory search for X-and gamma-ray line emissions;
(2) to determine the isotopic composition of the most abundant components of the cosmic-ray flux with atomic mass between 7 and 56, and the flux of each element with atomic number (Z) between Z = 4 and Z = 50;
(3) to search for super-heavy nuclei up to Z = 120 and measure the composition of the nuclei with Z >20.

Hello

The International Year of
Astronomy (IYA2009) is a year-long celebration of astronomy, taking place in 2009 to coincide with the 400th anniversary of the first recorded astronomical observations with a telescope by Galileo Galilei and the publication of Johannes Kepler's Astronomia nova in the 17th century.[1] The Year was declared by the 62nd General Assembly of the United Nations.[2]A global scheme, laid out by the International Astronomical Union (IAU), has also been endorsed by UNESCO—the UN body responsible for Educational, Scientific and Cultural matters.

Miss Florence, the three things I can say are:

1. The 100 Hours of Astronomy was from 2 to 5 of April, brought over 100 countries together in a planet-wide celebration of astronomy, because of the 400th anniversary of Galileo Galilei.

2. The world visited 80 professional observatories around the world during a 24-hour live online tour, and more than a million people had their first close-up views of the Moon, Saturn, the Sun and other objects of interest through telescopes.

3. A Cornerstone Project of the International Year of Astronomy brought the Universe to all the world's citizens to discover for themselves.
