Hello miss Florence,
Very interesting the UV index. Imagine that one day in Argentina there would be 11+. I would never be out of my house, or if I go out, with protection.
There is another thing you said on class to bring for tomorrow, it was the UV in here today, but I dont know where to find it.

I really enjoyed this post, my mother too as she always tells me to put sunscream on.
I learned 3 things:
•If your shadow is taller than your UV exposure is likely to be low.
•If your shadow is shorter than you are you are being exposed to high levels of UV radiation.
.Snow and water can reflect the sun's rays. In winter, reflection off snow can nearly double UV strength.

It is great but the important thing is that you informed me when to be at the sun and when not.

Hello Miss Florence,
it was very interesting the video. I learned that the ozone depilation is becuase of the UV radiation, also that the UV index tells you how much UV radiation reaches the earth and that when is high the UV index you have to aboid the sun exposure, you have to aboid it at 10 am until 4 pm. I learned a lot of things, and this information I think it help us a lot because if we dont know what is the UV index is in bain to get the weather.

Hi miss florence,
I found that the UV index has drifent levels:
-2 or less: means low danger from the suns UV rays for the avarage person.
-3;4;5: Means a moderate risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure.
-7;6> Means high risk of harm of unnprotected sun exposure.
-8;9;10: Means very high risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure.
-11+...:means extreme risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure.

Hello Miss Florence, the site is great, because with a little of information, we can know a lot, without beign obligated to do so. I am going to tell you three of the many things I learnt from this site of U.V index are:
That the U.V index can stain our skin badly. That the ozone, protect us from the U.V index, because if we didn´t have the ozone, we would die from being burnt! (the ozone doesn´t let pass a lot of U.V index to the earth, that´s why we don´t die burt). And that the U.V index changes a lot when the weather changes a lot or if the seasons also change.
the blog is great...keep on posting
ps: I like working with U.V index and that this will help us a lot with the weather we have to find!

Hello Florence:
I learnt a lot of things in this post:
The ozone layer shields the Earth from harmful UV radiation.

This really impressed me:
An easy way to tell how much UV exposure you are getting is to look for your shadow:
• If your shadow is taller than you are (in the early morning and late afternoon), your UV exposure is likely to be low.
• If your shadow is shorter than you are (around midday), you are being exposed to high levels of UV radiation.

ive learned that
.the ozon layer protects us from the uv index
.it can harm you very badly if you dont have the corect protectio

.if tere is more than 11 it is better to stay indoors reading a book than risking your skinto dangerous ryes

Hi Miss Florence In this link y have learnt that Uv index is of vital importance, because it has to do with our planet. If the rays are taller than our shadow your UV index is low.
If it shorter your in high risk of UV index. The UV index thermometer is very good. If its high you should use sunglasses and protection. Lucas G 6A Pchica

Hi Miss Florence.
A UV Index reading of 2 or less means low danger from the sun's UV rays for the average person:
Wear sunglasses on bright days. In winter, reflection off snow can nearly double UV strength.
If you burn easily, cover up and use sunscreen.Snow and water can reflect the sun's rays. Skiers and swimmers should take special care. Wear sunglasses or goggles, and apply sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15. Remember to protect areas that could be exposed to UV rays by the sun's reflection, including under the chin and nose.

Hello Miss Florence
I learned that even at the mountains where the weather is very cold the sun burns. We need to take care when the shadow is shorter than you at midday. It means that the uv radiation is high. If your shadow is bigger than you it means that you may stay for some time before you get burnt.

Three things I learnt about the UV index is that it has a scale from 1 to 11, the stronger the UV radiation the stronger the sun and that 1 or 2 percent is definded low, 3 to percent is defined moderate, 6 to 7 is defined high, that 8 to 10 percent is defied very high and finaly that 11 percent is definded extreme.

Hello Miss Florence:

It is a very good post because it is very clear to learn what the UV index is. Thinks I learnt about the UV index are that: ozone depletion, weather and the seasons cause diffrents amounts of UV radition to reach the earth. Also I learnt that the scale of UV index is sparete between 5: low, moderate, high, very high and extreme. For each level you need diffrents protations. Also the snow and water reflect the sun´s rays. If your shadow is taller than you, you are in the early morning or late afternoon and if the shadow is taller than you is that you are in midday. Using sunglasses protects the lids of yours eyes as well as lens. It is possible to go outside when the UV index is extreme.

Hello Miss Florence,
This are very important facts about the UV index.
1)The ozone layer protects the Earth from the damage of the UV radiation,in some years the UV index will be higher because our ozone layer is being destructed so more radiation can come in.
2)The amount of UV radiation reaching the surface is primarily related to the elevation of the sun in the sky, the amount of ozone in the stratosphere, and the amounts of cloud cover. However, thick cloud can greatly reduce ultraviolet radiation levels and, surprisingly, certain types of thin cloud can magnify the ultraviolet radiation strength
3)The UV Index can range from 0 (at night) to 11 or 12. It might even be higher in the tropics and/or at high elevations under clear skies. The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around the summer solstice). However, indices of 9 and 10 are common in the Mediterranean area.
4)The higher the UV Index, the greater the dose rate of skin damaging (and eye damaging) UV radiation. Consequently, the higher the UV Index, the smaller the time it takes before skin or eye damage occurs.
Good Bye,
See you at school,
Josefina G.M6A

.The ozone layer shields the Earth from harmful UV radiation.
.Seasons cause different amounts of UV radiation to reach the Earth so the UV tells us how much
.It also tells you how much you have to safe from the sun.

hello miss florence

I read the link you gave us and it has a lot of information three things that I learnt are:

-Ozone depletion, weather, and the seasons cause different amounts of UV radiation to reach the Earth.

-A UV Index reading of 11 or higher means extreme risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure.

-Snow and water can reflect the sun's rays. Skiers and swimmers should take special care. Wear sunglasses or goggles, and apply sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15. Remember to protect areas that could be exposed to UV rays by the sun's reflection, including under the chin and nose.

Hello Miss Florence,
The three things i could learnt where:
1: Ozone layer shields, Earth from haarmful uv ratation.
2: Ozone depletion, wether, another season couse different amounts of uv rotation to the earth.
3:The uv index predicts the next day's uv levels on a 1-11+ scales.

I learn t the different levels of UV radiation there are in the world, that not all of the UV rays are reflected by the ozone cap and that UV radiation is extremely harmful for our skin.

Hello miss Florence,
These are the things I learnt
1) The ozone layer protects us on Earth from the sun´s UV rays. (That UV means ultraviolet)
2) Depends on the weather and the season that cause different amounts of ultraviolet radiation to reach the Earth.
3)The UV index predicts the next day´s UV levels on a scale that helps you decide what you can do to be safe in the sun

I liked the UV index scale!! It has lot of important information that I didn´t know before!
See you tomorrow

Miss Flor,
We have just seen the website... it is very interesting. We learnt A LOT!
This is quite a good way of learning, we realy understood. some things are:
-The ozone layer shields the Earth from harmful UV radiation.
-The seasons cause different amounts of UV radiation to reach the Earth.
-UV Index tells you how much radiation there is...

Hello Miss Florence,
What i leart in these was that:
1)The ozone layer shields the earth from harmful UV radiation.
2)When the UV Index is at 11+ it is at extreme
3)And when the UV Index is at 2 or less is low.
Thank you for teaching me what it means,
Bye Miss Florence,

Hello Miss Florence:
This are the three things I learn´t:
.When the UV Index is 2 or less means low danger from the sun's UV rays.
.When the UV Index is 3 to 5 means moderate risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure.
.When the UV Index is 6 to 7 means high risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure.
I learn´t a lot about the UV Index.

Hi! Miss Florence:
Well I learnd so much thinks well first of all I learnd that a UV is the ozone layer that protects the Earth also I learnd that the UV index tell you how much its predicts the next days Levelss..
and also tells you how to by carefull of the sun.AND I also learnd that
2 or less is LOW
3 TO 5 is MODERATED
6 TO 7 is High
8 TO 9 is very HIGHT so you need to take care of your skin AND THAT 10 IS EXTREME and it if the sun its EXTREME you need to try to by away from the sun form 10 am to 4 pm AND ALSO Seek shade, cover up, wear a hat and sunglasses, and use sunscreen.

Hi Miss Florence,
I think the post about the UV index was very interesting! Before I didn't even knew what the UV index was.
I have learnt many interesting things, these are some of them:

•If your shadow is shorter than you are you are being exposed to high levels of UV radiation.

Hello Florence:
what I found about and learned of the uv index is this:
1)The UV indez is a measure of the level of UV radiation.
2)The values of the index range from zero upward - the higher the it is, greater the potential for the skin and eyes, and the less time it takes for harm to occur.
3)The UV index is an important vehicle to alert people about the need to use sun protection.

The UV index tells the radiation of the sun that reaches the Earth.
The sun can harm our skin so we use a UV index to see the power of the radiation of the sun. So the scale of the UV index is from 1 to 11 separatit like this
Low that is a none harming radiation
Moderate , that is norm
High, that can cause certain damages
Extreme, is very dangeurous because you can damage your skin so much that u can get some Skin Cancer.

Hello Miss Florence,
I learnt alot first I learnt that you should take precautions in every UV. In low you should wear sunglasses. In moderate you should stay in the shade, In high you need to use protection at least 15. In very high you should use protection specially from 10:00 to 4:00 and obviously wear sunglasses to protect your eyes. In extreme you should wear a protection every 2 hours try not to be outside or in the sun at midday and wear sun glasses. Bye Bye

Hello Miss Florence
I entered the link and saw the webpage. I learnt the numbers related to the words, for example 2=low. I knew that uv rays damaged our skin but I did not know that the scale was from 2 to 11+, I thought it was infinit. Know I know that it is important to check the uv index everyday, specially summer and you can not forget if you have sensitive skin, like me a sometimes.
thanks for sharing this info...

hi miss Florence:

I learnt that the ozone layer protects the earth, but sometimes its better to stay at your house rather than playing outside because if not you can be burn very easely. Another thing that i learnt is that when tere is 6 or more of UV rays, put a lot of sunscreem or if not your skin will get red in minutes.
One more thing that I learnt was that that ( maiby I was more impressed than i leant) was that how much the rays of the sun can hurt you even if the UV index is low.

Miss Florence,
This webpage helped me understand what the uv was and more about it.. Some thing I learnt were:
-That the ozone layer shields the Earth from harmful UV radiation.
-Thatweather, and the seasons cause different amounts of UV radiation to reach the Earth.
- When the uv is extreme you have to:
Take all precautions.
Try to avoid sun exposure between 10 a.m. and 4 pm
Look for shade, cover up, wear a hat and sunglasses, and use sunscreen.

hi miss florence:
I learnt that the ozone layer shields the earth from harmful UV radiation.
The season causes different amount of UV radiation to reach to Earth .
Wear sunglasses on bright days. In winter, reflection off snow can nearly double UV strength.
If you burn easily, cover up and use sunscreen.
I learnt a lot and it is a very good and usefull information!!!
