THE PHYSICS OF FOOTBALL...

Well... I guess we can´t talk about Argentina in South Africa as part of the World Football Cup, but we can talk about Physics, and Physics related to Football! (Football to us is Soccer to the Americans.) Please click on the ball and read this very clarifying site about Physics and Football...Getting ready for our second term at school!

Hello miss florence,
What a great post, I liked it a lot because I like studying phycics but physics of football. While I was taking a look at the article I found a oldest ball. This is what it said:
Charles Goodyear's Soccer Ball
In 1836 Charles Goodyear patented vulcanized rubber. Prior to this, balls were dependant on the size and shape of the pig's bladder. The more irregular the bladder, the more unpredictable the behavior of the ball was when kicked. However; it would not be until the twentieth century until most balls were made with rubber bladders.

In 1855, Charles Goodyear designed and built the first vulcanized rubber soccer balls (footballs). The following picture shows the Charles Goodyear ball that is on display at the National Soccer Hall of Fame which is located in Oneonta, NY, USA.

Some of the things that appeared is:
Bill Shankly, the former manager of Liverpool football club, once said: "Football is not about life or death. It is more important than that." This month at the World Cup in France, millions of football fans will get that same feeling for a few, short weeks. Then the event will be over, and all that will remain will be a few repeats on television and the endless speculation about what might have happened. It is this aspect of football that its fans love, and others hate. What if that penalty had gone in? What if the player hadn't been sent off? What if that free kick hadn't bent around the wall and gone in for a goal? This is great in soccer, and that's what it's got to do with physics, I am intersted in learning more!

I love the post you put! I liked it very much because football is something that I play a lot of time and is a fantastic sport! Hello Florence!

Loved this post! Defenetly interesting, and I really like that is related with football!!! The first spinning object was made by Lord Rayleigh to work done by the German physicist Gustav Magnus in 1852.I really learnt!

I have several things to tell you!!! CHEK THEM OUT:
First great post!!! I loved it I discovered new and intresting things!!! I had no idea that Charles Goodyear created and designed the first soccer ball!!! This are soem aspect of the ball:
1) It was from about the size of a pig´s bladder in spanish vejiga de cerdo.
2) They where made form vulcanized rubber.
3)Charles Goodyear created it.

Isn´t it AMAZING!!!!

Another thing I want to say is ........
Yes, we really can talk about Argentina on South Africa. Because we won all the matches except the one vs Germany. Plus it is recognized as one of the best soccer teams in history!!! I am proud to say I am an Argentine not only because of the wonders that have our beautifull country. Also our team showed honour, a smile and courage when playing between other countrieas with different cultures.
Back in theme
WOW for a thousand times can you belive all the things we lear out of a branch in thiis case of the MUNDIAL. I had no idea of some things!!!
I really enjoyed reading all this information!!!!

PS: I had a very nice time at school in Scince class I loved doing an experiment it was som uch fun. We had ateh freedom to do a great experiment in freedom by dealing with serten rules.

I LOOKED AT THE POST AND IT SAID THAT IN 1836 CHARLES GOODYEARVULCANIZED RUBBER. bALLS WERE DEPANDANT ON THE SIZE AND THE SHAPE.

It was a very good post some parts I didn´t understand very much some parts. The goal of David Beckham was very good. I saw the goal of Roberto Carlos and it was such as the one of the post. The frase of Bill Shankly was very good and interesting to read

I like this post. I like football but there are physics of football that is greater than only football.
